I NEVER AGAIN WANT THE LAST YACHT OF THE PREVIOUS GENERATION – OWNER BALTIC 142 DSS
As yachts have got longer and larger the ability to have enough stability has become more of a challenge. Fitting DSS to a superyacht such as the Baltic 142 has been proven to reduce heeling by 30% and pitching by 42%. To put this into context, to reduce the heeling to the same degree using keel weight would require 30,000kg more lead, or simply put, a second keel! This would of course massively increase the weight of the yacht, increase the loads and reduce the performance.
In real terms the use of DSS can reduce the heel angle from 25 degrees to 10-12 degrees at the push of a button, greatly increasing the comfort for all on board. (this is good)
Further environmental gains are due to the DSS foil. With extra performance the drag of hydrogeneration is often offset, or even more efficient thanks to the additional speed of the yacht. This enables a lower emission yacht that is more comfortable at the same time – truly a win win!
